Regional Secretaries
Every Region of the Association appoints, from among the Branches in that Region, a person to act as Regional Secretary. The Region determines the manner of appointment and the terms and conditions and responsibilities of the Regional Secretary.
Each Regional Secretariat is headed by a Regional Secretary - most Regional Secretaries are officials of their Branch. In some cases, the person holding the appointment of Regional Secretary is the senior Clerk of the host Branch and actual duties are devolved to a subordinate. It is entirely a matter for each Region as to who holds the formal appointment but it is absolutely crucial that, where the responsibilities are devolved, there is a single point of contact for the CPA Secretariat and that the nominated official has decision-making powers.
Regional Secretaries perform a number of common duties across the CPA and these include:
Acting as Secretary to the Regional Executive Committee and Regional Conference;
Coordination of arrangements for the Regional Conference;
Facilitating communication between Regional Representatives and Branches within Regions;
Keeping the CPA Secretariat informed of relevant developments within the Region;
Advising the CPA Secretariat on matters affecting the Region;
Facilitating communication between the CPA Secretariat and their Regions when required;
Attendance at the Annual Conference of the CPA.
