CPA/World Bank Workshop on the Bretton Woods Institutions and Development

This Workshop held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 27 to 28 February 2006 included partners from the Asian Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development.

This three-day workshop targeted Parliamentarians in the national Branches of the CPA India, Asiaand South East Asia Regions and who hold office in a financial oversight committee. It included core modules to address the following three themes where Parliamentarians can make a critical difference:

  • Promoting pro-poor policies;
  • Creating good investment climates and promoting reforms; and
  • Designing effective development policies in donor countries.

The methodology for the workshop was based on the World Bank’s successful model of the Compact Seminars currently aimed at university and graduate students.  The modules previously designed by outside academics for the Compact Seminars will be adapted and used to provide additional information depending on the parliamentary audience’s interest and needs.  These include:

  • Sustainable Development
  • Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSPs)
  • International Financial Institutions
  • Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
  • Political Economy of International Development
  • Aid Effectiveness
