The International Trading System
CPA is working with the WTO Secretariat, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, European Parliament and the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank to raise awareness of International Trade issues.
Although Parliaments and Parliamentarians have long been asked to support their governments’ policies and enact legislation to implement the results of trade negotiations, MPs had virtually no involvement in – and very little knowledge of – the international trading system which was determining the futures of their communities. For Commonwealth MPs, that began to change in 2003 through the work of the CPA.
Steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference on the WTO
The CPA is a member of the Steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference on the WTO. The Conference meets at least once a year and on the occasion of WTO Ministerial Conferences.
