The Chairperson of the Executive Committee is the executive head of the Association.

The Chairperson: is the official spokesman of the Association on all matters affecting the policy of the Association; presides over meetings of the Executive Committee; co- ordinates the work of, and provides policy guidance to, the subcommittees of the Executive Committee; provides policy guidance to the Secretary General and serves as an ex officio Member of all subcommittees of the Executive Committee, but without right of vote.

 The General Assembly elects a Chairperson of the Executive Committee. 

Hon. Dato' Seri Mohd. Shafie Apdal, MP of the Parliament of Malaysia was elected as Chairperson for a three-year term at the 2008 General Assembly held in Malaysia.
