Poverty Reduction

Through participation in CPA programmes, Parliamentarians are able to champion socio-economic reforms and promote good governance not only in their own jurisdictions but also in the international community. 

Parliamentarians can:

• Contribute to the shaping of Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers implemented in poorer Commonwealth and other nations through the World Bank and the International Monetary fund;
• Improve the conservation of scarce government financial resources through advances in parliamentary scrutiny of public spending, and
• Implement and reinforce effective measures to curb corruption so valuable resources go where they are most needed – to the poorest in all societies.
