Effective measures to curb corruption
Allied to its work on the oversight of public spending is the CPA’s programme to help Parliamentarians, and through them their governments, develop effective ways to curb corruption and inculcate in civil services a culture of efficient and ethical provision of government services.
Corruption is recognized internationally as a deterrent to development which impacts most harshly on the poor and lower-income citizens and undermines the credibility of governments, Parliaments, democracy and the rule of law. The CPA is therefore helping Parliaments to identify and apply the best practices of good governance to stop corruption from happening as well as to expose and punish wrong-doing.
In 2001, a CPA/Wilton Park conference on “Enhancing Good Governance by Curbing Corruption” enabled Parliamentarians, government representatives and experts to discuss successful strategies to tackle corruption and minimize its impact on development.
